Walking Behavior in MTR Transfer Station and Implementation for Passageway Capacity Evaluation
The conventional method for designing facilities in Mass Transit Railway (MTR) transfer station is achieved by means of supply demand analysis under the regular and safety-critical circumstances. This paper focuses on the passenger evacuation process in passageway in MTR stations at both microscopic and macroscopic levels. Based on the data collected at a chosen position, Xizhimen station in Line2, the results about passenger behaviors are presented. A model based on social force is developed for the final aim to estimate capacity of walking facilities in MTR transfer station by simulation study. The feasibility of model was validated from the comparison between the simulated result and the real world data. The proposed model was applied to the process simulation of passengers walking through multi-width passageway; the results showed non-liner relationship between effective width and unit capacity, instead of the conventional liner relationship.
