Fire Hazard Assessment of Phosphorous-containing Flame Retardant Polypropylene Based on Cone Calorimeter
Flame retardant behavior of polypropylene compounded with phosphorous-containing flame retardant and Ammonium polyphosphate has been investigated by the cone calorimeter tests and limiting oxygen index (LOI) tests to determine the effect of FR/APP on fire performance. The parameters measured include heat release rate, time to ignition, smoke, and CO yields, on the basis of which fire hazard analysis is carried out. Results show that FR and APP have a better synergistic effect on flame retardance. Because of the introduction of FR and APP into polypropylene, time to ignition (TTI) and Fire Propagation Index (FPI) of polypropylene materials improve evidently. While peak HRR, Fire Growth Index (FGI), Specific Extinction Area (SEA) and concentration CO decrease obviously. And PP4 shows the lowest fire hazard, which contains 15wt% FR and 10wt%APP.
