International Trade and Labor Standards: Effects on Chinas Foreign Trade
The relationship between labor standards and international trade is very controversial. There exists a view that it is more effective to enforce international labor standards by trade sanctions.However, the voice of the objectors is the same loud. This paper first explores the wide disparity of views on the relative viewpoints and then analyzes the effects of international labor standards on Chinas foreign trade. The discussion and analysis include: the definition and scope of international labor standards; the limitation of ILO; the vat-ions opinions about the relationship between international labor standards and trade sanction; the present labor conditions in Chinas foreign trade industry (especially the labor-intensive export industry); and the effects of international labor standards on this industry.
