Safety Climate Measurement in Chinese Coal Mine
There is no safety climate measurement in Chinese coal mine. Foreign researches and practices have proved that safety climate has important influences on enterprises safety status. There is no consensus on the factor structure of safety climate and not many documents for reference in China, so the author developed the measurement based on Cheyne et al.s research result. After revised and discussed by safety experts, the original 30-item questionnaire was conducted in a coal mine where 250 workers were as subjects, and then extracted to 17 items. Exploratory factor analysis and inter-item consistency were applied to examine construct validity and reliability. The safety climate scores of ages and years of work experience among different groups were analyzed to show discriminant validity. The five factors: safety standards and goals, safety standards and goals, personal involvement, communication, safety management and individual responsibility explained 61.71% variance. Coefficients of inter-item consistency met psychometric requirements. So safety climate measurement for China coal mine workers with these 17 items is valid and reliable.
