Industry-academia-research, Universities and Technological Innovation in China
The improvement of independent innovation ability and the construction of aninnovation-oriented country are strategic goals of the Chinese government and common objectives ofsociety as a whole, with specific emphasis on scientific and educational circles. Universities aredifferent from research institutions in that their primary task is to train future professionals who willcontribute to the comprehensive and harmonious development of humans and society according to theneeds of economic development and the progress of science and technology. Much scientific researchand original innovation occurs at universities, and the results of such research are often transformed andindustrialized for practical use. In order to increase competitiveness, China must promote thecombination of academia and research institutes with industry and the advancement of science andtechnology.
