A Simulated Collaborative Learning Model for Undergraduates
Collaboration is a critical skill for undergraduates to become professional engineers or managers since modem industry emphasizes cooperation more than ever. Collaborative learning method provides students with collaborative skills, communication skills, creativity, critical thinking skills, and application skills in both education and industry. This paper presents an integrated and simulated collaborative learning model which emphasizes simulation of industry application and student-centered instruction. The procedure in the collaborative learning model consists of five steps: definition of learning task, team plan, collaborate research, achievement summary, and final assessment. Then the participants and collaboration characteristics in the engineering industry are discussed in the view of systematic learning model which is integrated with latest information technology and data technology. A case based on the collaborative learning model is developed in the end, and the collaborative learning model could foster students to be cooperative.
