Modeling the Response of Environmental Pollutants to the Urbanization in Jiangxi Province,China

The study investigated the response of environmental pollutants to urbanization in Jiangxi province of China by using Granger Causality test and impulse response function(IRF).The causality relationships for pollutants discharges and urbanization ewre tested before the environmental pollutants changes in line with urbanization process from 1978 to 2005 were qualitatively described.and then the environmental pollutants response to urbanization was simulated by IRF.The results revealed that there were different characteristics for the pollutants corresponding to variable urbanization process during the study period, and rapid urbanization process was correlated with fluctuations in pollutants discharges, which indicated that per capita discharge of industrial waste water decreased associated with the slower urbanization process, simultaneously, per capita discharge of industrial solid wastes and consumption waste water gradually increased in accordance with the accelerating urbanization process, and per capita discharge of industrial waste gas firstly increased and then decreased corresponding to the urbanization process.Obviously, the technique may offer a fresh perspective on such environmental management issues, and potentially also several advantages over existing approaches.
