A Study of Yttrium Iron Gamet (YIG) Prepared by Sol-gel method

The yttrium iron gamet, Y3Fe5O12, has been prepared by the sol-gel method with citric acid as chelating agent. Combining results of the XRD spectra with the data of specific magnetization asp for the pre-sintered powder and the ratio of tso/0ss, it has been drown that the formation of YIG occurs at 650℃~900℃,in 150℃ earlier than that of common YIG prepared by the ceramics method. The shrinkage data evidence that the densification is in more than 200℃ postpone than the solid reaction. The particle sizes of powder increase with increasing heat temperature from 13nm (700℃) to 60nm (950℃). At 1240℃ the linewidth AH reaches the optimum value 4.5kA/m (57Oe). The 1240℃ is in 200℃ lower than the sitering temperature of common YIG.The spin wave linewidth ΔHk decreases with increasing sintering temperature and the value of ΔHk(1240℃) is 0.33kA/m (4.1Oe), which is remarkable higher than that of the common YIG with a factor of 2 times. The SEM photograph and the sintering behaviors of density, porosity and shrinkage are presented and discussed.
