An Overall Review of Low Temperature Co-fired NiCuZn Ferrites Prepared by the Ceramics Methods and the Sol-Gel Methods

The fine powders of Ni1-a-xZnxCuaFe2-δO4 (0.15≤a<0.25, 0.55≤x≤0.65) ferrites ware prepared by both ceramics method and the sol-gel method. Base on the same selected composition, the characteristics, includingμi, Q value,μQ product, tanδμ1, aμ, electronic resistivity p and the frequency spectra of/μi,μi, for the specimens sintered at 880+20℃ from both two kinds of powders, are illustrated and compared. The results demonstrate that the NiCuZn ferrite prepared by milling oxides processes has much higher properties than that by the sol-gel method, such as itsμQ product=12.3x104 with a factor of 2 times higher than the others and its resistivity of p>1012 Ωcm is in 3 orders higher than the others. The SEM photograph reveals that the porosity in the specimen by the sol-gel method is much higher than that by the ceramics method. Due to the material prepared by the sol-gel method has high cost and low/μQ product, the ratio of property to cost of the material by the ceramics method is much better than that by the sol-gel method with a factor of 20~16 times. It is also pointed out that the sol-gel method possesses some problems in serious environment pollution and non-convenient to manufactures.
