Cometabolic decolorization of acid red 14 by bacillus cereus
A Strain of Bacillus cereus isolated from peptone mixture cultures(PMC)decolorized a toxic azo dye(Acid Red 14)in the present of supplemental carbon source, such as peptone or glucose.By cometabolism degradation.Acid Red 14 of 100 mg.I-1 could be decolorized within 48h.HPLC and UV-VIS analysis of the AR 14 degradation products of the cultures of Bacillus cereus indicate that the bacteria reductively leaved AR 14 into colorless products. No degradation occurred when AR14 was present as sole carbon source. These results suggest that a primary carbon source.such as peptone or glucose,is essential for extensive dye decolorization by Bacillus cereus.
