The ozonation of Songhua river water as advanced treatment
The Songhua river water,source water of millions people Mong the river is heavily polluted.Convenfional treatment is virtually impossible to produce safe drinking water from the source water and advanced treatment becomes a necessity.The most prevalent advanced treatment method,ozonation,was thus tested to treat the filtrated water from the Songhua river source water.The oxidation efficiency was analyzed qualitatively by UV254,DOC and CODMn.The initial study focused on the selection of proper ozone dose and ozonation time.Which varied from 0.5-12.5 mg/L.And 1-60 min.Batch experiments were used for this purpose.The best operational conditions were fund to be 3 mg/L ozone and reaction time of 10 rain;the ozone consumption was around 2.5 mg/L.COD removal efficiency was improved but not obviously by the increase of ozone dose,which proved the existence of optimal ozone dose of the oxidation process.It iS easy for ozone to oxidize unsaturated organics.So unsaturated organics could be effectively removed in a short time.Although the removal rate of organics increased as reaction time elevated,the efficiency increase slowed down.Meanwhile,ozone could transform some POC into DOC so as to increase the value of DOC.Because ammonia is difficult for ozone to oxidize,during ozonation.Organic nitrogen could be transformed into ammonia-nitrogen,which bring on the hoist of NH3-N.These experiments showed that ozone oxidadon is inefiective to the removal of ammonia-nitrogen and DOC.After ozonation,the biodegradability of treated water had been improved,so ozone oxidation combined with bio-treatment would be a better choice.
