Photosonolysis of naphthalene in aqueous solution

The US/UV coupling irradiations process was investigated for the degradation of naphthalene in aqueous solution,which followed the apparent first-order reaction kinetics.It was observed that the degradation efficiency of US/UV coupling process was higher than UV or US individually and synergetic effect was significant.The effect of dual frequency was also obvious when the US irradiating process was applied uniquely.The degradation efficiencies were found to increase with the decrease of initial concentration and rise of pH of aqueous solution.UV power and US frequency/power played the important roles in the degradation process.The existence of catalyst TiO2 promoted the degradation of naphthalene,but the light-shielding effect should be considered.Under the circumstance of naphthalene and O-nitrophenol in mixture solution,the degradation efficiency of each chemical would be lower than that in the individual degradation process.Based on the analysis of GS-MS graph.the intermediates were determined and the degradation mechanism of naphthalene was primarily proposed.
