Study on the electrochemical reduction of nitrate

We investigated performances as well as influencing factors of electrocatalytic denitrification of a titanium cathode and a RuO2-Pt modified titanium anode, from drinking water.Study that influencing factors which include different current densities.Different electrode distances and difierent initial pH values influence the efficiency of de denitrification. While kinetics studies of electrocatalytic denitrification was primarily discussed. The nitrate concentration around cathode declined distinctly while the nitrate concentration around anode changed unconspicuously as electrocatalytic denitrification with the selective electrode.Nevertheless, when the current density was 10mA/cm2,the space between electrodes was 2cm,and the NO3-N concentration was 100mg/L.N03-N concentration near the cathode decreased to about 50mg/L after 2hours’electrocatalytic dellitrification. The principle is electrochemical catalysis deoxidize and substance impress. The total concentration of NO3-N in the system decreased to approximate 85mg/L.In the electrocatalytic process,no NH3+-N and NO2-N has been found in the system. The elimination of NO3-N near the cathode was complied with the the second-order nitrate transformation rate constant. While some Other materials(NaCl,etc)are added into the sample water,Which make it more like the realitY,the elimination efficiency of nitrate declined. The reason may be that the similar anions had the competitive adsorption with the nitrate aroundthe cathode.
