Investigation on direct filtration of municipal secondary effluent With metal-oxides-coated sands
This study was carried out to investigate the surface performance of metal-oxides-coated sands (MOCSs)and the effects of various MOCSs and natural quartz sand(QS)on the pollutants removal efficiencies by filtration of municipal secondary effluent for wastewater reuse. Results showed that the surface physical smbility of iron-aluminum-oxides-coated sand(IAOCS),iron-oxides-coated sand(IOCS)and SJ materials coated sand(SJCS)were better than aluminum-oxides-coated sand(AOCS),and there were metal oxides on their surfaces leading to better adsorption capability for pollutants than QS.The turbidity removal efficiencies were all above 60%by MOCSs and QS filtrations of secondary effluent.Compared with QS,MOCSs had higher removal efficiencies of COD,UV254 and PO43-p.Furthermore,the concentrations of pO43-p were all below 1mg/L in these filtrates.Among these MOCSs.IOCS and SJCS had stable pollutants removal efficiencies, and the average removal efficiencies of COD,UV254 and PO43-p increased more than 26%,79%and 40%,respectively,compared with QS.
