Study on Post- polymerization of Poly(p-phenylenebenzobisoxazole) in Double Screw Extruder

Pre-polymer of Poly(p-phenylenebenzobisoxazole) (PBO) was prepared by the heterogeneous step-growth polycondenstion of 4,6-diaminoresorcinol hydrochloride (DAR·2HCI) with terephthalic acid ( TA )in polyphosphoric acid (PPA).The post-polymerization of pre-polymer of PBO occurred in the double screwextruder. Put a certain amount of PBO pre-polymers into the twin-screw extruder. After filling out the reverse screw thread and neulral kneading block, stop feeding. Control the temperature, screw rotation speed of the double screw extruder, materials in the region react under high temperature and high shear for a certain time,then open the extruder sleeve and sampling. Using Ubbelohde viscometer to determine the intrinsic viscosity of the samples. Orthogonal analysis of the methods used to study the main operation parameters of the twin-screw extruder about the post-polymerization, found that the temperature of the most affected, followed by the residence time,the impact of the smallest screw rotation speed. Therefore, in the post-polymerization process of actual continuous spinning, set a higher temperature and medium speed of rotation of the screw and increase the proportion of length versus diameter of screw, or even several screw-series will enable the polymer material react with sufficient time and have a good flow properties. The study of post-polymerization dynamics inspected in the post-polymerization stage, temperature andresidence time is how to effect the intrinsic viscosity of the polymer. The experimental results were in Figure 1.
