Study of Esterified MAH Reaction with Vinyl Chloride,Vinyl Acetate by Suspension polymerization
poly vinyl chloride-vinyl acetate (Poly VC-Vac) is important component to produce adhesive agent,such as coating, printing ink and so on. In order to increase the adhesive strength between the polymer andsubstrate material, it is effective to introduce carboxy group onto the molecular structure of poly(VC-Vac) 1, 2. As most monomer with carboxl group has hydrophilic property, solution polymerization is usually chosed to prepare modifying poly (VC-Vac) 3. For example, vinyl chloride, vinyl acetate and maleic acid are mixed and dissolved in butyl acetate solvent, which brings uniform polymerization and produces terpolymer with carboxl group4. However it is dufficult to wipe off solvent by this method eventually, and the polymerization cycle is too long. Furthermore the rudimental solvent may result in environmental pollution. It is necessary to transform the molecular structure of MAH since MAH has hydrophilic property5, 6. In this work carboxy modifying Poly (VC-Vac) was prepared by suspension polymerization.Firstly, MAH is esterified by ethanol to produce MEM which retains certain carboxy group, at the same time it also has been provided with lipophilicity. Then MEM is put to react with vinyl chloride, vinyl acetate in aqueous phase. Eventually carboxy group is introduced onto molecular structure of Poly (VC-Vac) successfully.
