Semi-adiabatic Anionic Polymerization of ε-Caprolactam at Relative High Temperatures by various activators

Anionic polymerization of ε-caprolactam(CL) is one of the main methods for fabrication of polyamide 6 (PA6).Malkin et al1, 2 and Macosco et al3 are among those who first studied and gave the most suitable kinetics equation for the anionic polymerization of CL. However, most of kinetics studies are focused on relative low temperatures, 140~160℃, to avoid side reactions in high temperature. For the reactive extrusion preparation of PA6, its inevitable to encounter reaction in relative high temperatures. Thus, it turns to be necessary to getkinetics data of relative high temperatures. The semi-adiabatic anionic polymerization of CL in air atmosphere activated at 170℃ and 180℃ by various activators were investigated in this paper.
