Self-assembly of Nanocomposite Latex and Artificial Optical Crystals
Artificial opals have sparked much interest in recent years since they have a lot of potential applications in photonics, opotoelectronics, data storage, and even in paint, photonic paper, cosmetic, and bioassay due to their structural colors.1,2. These opals are usually fabricated by self-assembly of monodisperse colloidal microspheres packing into a face-centered cubic cell since this approach is simple, cost-efficient and can yield crystalline samples of a few to several hundred structural layers thickness.3
