Super-Ductile Plastics by the Evolution of Negative Pressure
A high energy absorbing polymer material is required for car parts to make the car friendly for driver and pedestrian. It should possess a unique tensile stress-strain curve: no sharp yielding point, necking stress level being low and constant, large elongation at break (hopefully more than 200%-elongation),and no serious deterioration of the mechanical properties by high temperature annealing (e.g., at 150 ℃ for 96 h).As shown in Fig. 2, we successfully developed such super-ductile material by reactive blending of poly(butylene terephthalate) (PBT) with poly(ethylene-co-glycidyl methacrylate) together with linear low density polyethylene (LLDPE) and hydrogenated styrene-butadiene-styren block copolymer(SEBS).
