Phase Diagram for Polymer/Ionic liquid/Water Ternary System Based on a Linearized Cloudpoint Curve Correlation
Ionic liquids, with the notable characteristics of low melting point, non-measurable vapor pressure, thermalstability and solvating properties for diverse kinds of materials, have been widely applied as the green solventsfor the dissolution of polymer materials such as cellulose, wool, silk, chitin, polyarylsufone,poly(m-phenyleneisophthalamide) and polyacrylonitrile, 1 And water is the common coagulant during theprocessing of fiber or film from polymer/ionic liquid solutions. In order to understand the formation mechanismof polymer solution, the construction of the phase diagram for polymer/solvent/non-solvent is very important. Asa novel ternary system, there is no report on the phase diagram of polymer/ionic liquid/water as so far. In ourwork, two phase diagrams for polyacrylonitrile(PAN)/ionic liquid/water and cellulose/ionic liquid/water wereconstructed based on linearized cloudpoint curve correlation(LCP), respectively.
