Contraction and Aggregation of Polystyrene Chains in Solvents with Various Molar Volumes
Nonradiative energy transfer (NET) and rheology were used to investigate the chain contraction and aggregationof polystyrene in solvents with various molar volumes near Θ temperature. Swelling of globules in the heatingprocess was also studied. Our results revealed that when the temperature decreased from above , chains innormal-sized solvents ( decalin, cyclohexene) PS followed multi chain contraction while in middle-sized solvent(dioctyl phthalate, DOP for short) the polymer chains did not show evidence for inter-chain contraction.Swelling of globules confirmed the above results and were consistent with the computer simulation predictions.Rheoiogy experiments were also performed to support NET results.
