My Sports Pulse:Increasing student interest in STEM disciplines through sports themes, games and mobile technologies
My Sports Pulse is a program designed to promotestudent achievement and interests in science and mathdisciplines using sports themed scenarios and celebrityathlete presence delivered over mobile devices to reachthe broadest possible audience. The program is set upto pilot in five different geographic locations aroundthe globe, followed by a broader public launch.During the phase one pilot, research questions includethe effectiveness of the program in promoting studentengagement and interests in math and science. Theresearch data will provide insight into the effectivenessof extrinsic motivators, and their transference tointrinsic motivation using games and simulationstoward the study of STEM (Science, Technology,Engineering, and Mathematics) disciplines. In thispaper, we will present the design heuristics andconceptual framework for the My Sports Pulseprogram.
