Beyond the ownership of handheld devices:active learning with ubiquitous learning minds
Whether mobile and ubiquitous learning becomes asubstantial learning scenario depends on how themobile and ubiquitous technologies facilitate newlearning demand in the future. The ownership ofdevices and the mobility of the personally-owneddevices are not the only critical issues ascomputational power becomes universally available. The rapidly changing world creates new challenges forlearners beyond learning existing knowledge. Itrequires learners live and learn with an active learning mind that promotes personal autonomy, socialcollaboration and intelligence as well as epistemicpluralism in order to create innovation with the aid of technologies.Transformative pedagogies andenvironment are required to facilitate the cultivation of such learning mind. Encouraging contribution, technology adoption, social intelligence and sociallypromotive collaboration become the critical issueswhen learners are augmented with distributed learningminds through mobile and ubiquitous technologies.
