Adoption and Diffusion of Sustainable Agricultural Technology:an Econometric Analysis

Sustainable agricultural technology (SAT) is considered a cornerstone of integrated farming,particularly in view of its ability to maintain soil fertility and increase productivity in the Loess Plateau in China. Using a logistic regression model, this paper evaluated the determinants of adoption of SAT among smallholder farmers in rain-fed farming systems, based on a survey of 226 farmers in the Loess Plateau in 2004-2005. Information obtained from this research can be used by policy makers,researchers and extension staff to enhance adoption of sustainable agricultural technology in the Loess Plateau and other areas with similar conditions as in China.
