Deep Determination of Chemical Components of the Kernel Shell of Camellia oleifera Seed by Py-GC/MS

Tea-oil tree (Camellia oleifera), whose seed has an oil-yield rate of about 55%, is a high-grade edible oil tree growing specifically in China. However, the seeds of C. oleifera are only used to obtain oil, and the abundant kernel shells are discarded and hence bring environmental pollution. Therefore, we used Py-GC/MS to analyze the possible top value-added chemical components from the kernel shells of mature C. oleifera seed. After treated with freeze-drying and smashing, the fresh kernel shell of C. oleifera seed was pyrolyzed in helium atmosphere at 590℃, then the pyrolysis product was analyzed by online-linked GC/MS. Relative content of each component was determined by area normalization, and 38 compounds from 47 peaks representing 97.28% were efficiently identified. The analytic result showed that the kernel shell of C. oleifera seed can be not only used as raw material of bioenergy, but also can be developed into top value-added materials of medicine, cosmetic, food, solvent and bioactive chemical industry.
