Grain Growth, Grain Boundary and Oriented Growth of Bi203 Doped MnZn Ferrite
MnZn ferrites with a nominal composition of Mn0.51Zn0.41Fe2.08O4 were prepared by conventional oxide ceramic process. The effects of Bi2O3 on grain growth, grain boundary and oriented growth of MnZn ferrites were investigated by means of characterizing the fracture surface micrograph by scanning electron microscope (SEM), composition of grain boundary by the energy dispersive X-ray spectroscope (EDS) and crystal phase by X-ray diffraction (XRD). The results indicate that Bi2O3 mainly segregates and concentrates in the grain boundary regions, promotes solid state reaction and grain growth, reduces porosity and causes grains to be more homogeneous. But excessive addition of Bi2O3 induces preferential oriented growth of MnZn ferrites in the <311> orientation.
