Experimental Study on Improvement Mechanism of Vibroflotation in Unsaturated Silt
In this paper, the foundation of one large thermal power plant, improved with stone columns, is taken as an example to discuss in detail the replacement mechanism of stone columns in unsaturated loessial silt by determination and analysis of volume of soil grains lost and by observation of the stone columns excavated. It is shown that 92% soil grains are taken in the pore of stone columns and not pressed into surrounding soil. Therefore, the void ratio of surrounding soil does not decrease,and the improvement mechanism is replacement other than densification in the site.
