Diagnosis of Preliminary Cavitation In Pumps By Wavelet Analysis

Cavitation is an important factor influencing the performance of pumps. The effective diagnosis of cavitation in pumps is a main subject researched by many scholars. The analysis of the collected sound signal is an effective method to diagnose the structure fault. The sound signal of preliminary cavitation in pumps is non-stationary and easily disturbed by noise. It can not distinguish effectively the features of preliminary cavitation signal by spectrum analysis. But wavelet analysis is a perfect means for non-stationary signal because of its multiple-resolution analysis. In this paper the sound signal from a mixed-flow pump SHH250-315 was analyzed with the multiple-dimension wavelet analysis. So the cavitation signal characteristic with less energy in sound signal is magnified and thereby diagnosed the preliminary cavitation in pump better. It provides a new way to diagnose the preliminary cavitation in pumps online.
