Temporal and Spatial Variation of Soil Moisture in Cornfield Mulched with Wheat Straw in Heilonggang Area
Maize field experiment with different mulch quantity of wheat straw was conducted in Fujia Zhuang Village of Shenzhou County in Hebei Province in 2005. Mulching quantity is 3t/hm2, 6t/hm2 and 9t/hm2 respectively, and no mulching is as a contrast. Soil moisture contour map was made according to field data by Surfer software. Temporal and spatial variation of soil moisture in cornfield with different mulch quantities was analyzed. The results showed that soil moisture in depth profile from 0 to 100cm in all treatments followed the same trend, which rise up in initial stage and then go down later period of maize. Between jointing to heading stage, the maximum moisture is observed in local zone. The value of soil moisture and its location is influenced by mulching quantities. The more mulched straw is, the larger soil moisture is in the zone. The highest soil moisture zone has a trend of extending downward. The trend of soil moisture distribution contour in soil profile is rising up from bottom to surface, which indicates that ground water has no influence on soft moisture variation. Soil moisture becomes larger with the more mulched straw.
