Exploring the Chinese Way of Downsizing in Transitional Era: Two Case Studies
Two Cases were studied focusing on the antecedents,processes and consequences of downsizing.Based on results of the above and compared with conceptual models from others,we developed a conceptual model to understand the downsizing mechanism in Chinese State-owned Enterprises in todays transitional era.The main points include: Chinese State-Owned Enterprises downsizing is a government-driven event,regarded as a crisis;intensity of the crisis among managers mediates their downsizing decision making strategies;and survivors psychological reactions are critical consequences,since the goal of downsizing is to improve efficiency whilst to reduce the cost.
