Synthesis and Properties of Phenylphosphinic Acid-Containing Amphiphilic Polymers by Reversible Addition-Fragmentation Transfer (RAFT) Polymerization

In the past decades, phosphorous-containing polymers received much attention of polymer chemists, since they have adhesive properties to metals1,2, bone and dentin3,4, as well as flame retardation property5. In this communication, a novel phosphorous-containing monomer, 3-2-(acryloyloxy)ethoxy-3-oxopropyl(phenyl) phosphinic acid (AEOPA) (Scheme 1) was first synthesized, and then the polymerizations were carried out at 60°C in the presence of benzyl 1H-imidazole-1-carbodithioate (BICDT), which is a good RAFT agent for methyl acrylate.
