Synthesis and Characterization of a Novel Polyimide Containing Aluminium-quinolate Functional Group
It has seen a considerable increase in the development of polymers functionalized with electroluminescent chromophores for applications as emission and electron-transport layers in organic lightemitting diodes (OLEDs) in the past decade. The design and characterization of faster and brighter electroluminescent devices has focused on either small organic compounds or conducting polymers, and these materials are of particular interest to industry because they allow for the use of low-cost solution-processing techniques, such as spin-coating or ink-jet printing in the fabrication of OLEDs. In particular, metalloquinolates, such as aluminium tris(8-hydroxyquinoline) (Alq3), have attracted significant attention due to their excellent solid-state properties including good electron mobility and high luminescence, making it the emission and electron-transport layer of choice in organic light-emitting diodes (OLEDs), however, one of limitation associated with Alq3 should be its poor processability. The current trend in the fabrication of OLEDs is solution-processing, whereas Alq3 must be vacuum deposited. One possible solution to this problem could be the application of polymers containing Alq3 pendant groups.
