Novel Fluorinated Poly(ether imide) toughened epoxy resin: morphology and mechanical properties

Epoxy resins have many desirable properties including high strength and modulus, excellent chemical and corrosion resistance and dimensional stability. However, due to their high crosslinked structure, they tend to have a characteristic low resistance to brittle fracture. This drawback prevents them from enlarging their application fields. To overcome this drawback, high performance thermoplastics such as poly(ether imide) (PEI) have been widely used to modify epoxy resins. They are effective modifiers to epoxy resins, with the retention of the thermal properties and modulus of the epoxy resins. In this research, in order to obtain good comprehensive properties of epoxy resin matrix and its composite, an epoxy resin system epoxy resin TGDDM/DGEAC-DDS/6FAPB was chosen to be toughened by PEI. The toughened effects of epoxy resin matrix and composite were investigated.
