JANUS COLLOIDS
The term Janus is used to describe such a structure whose two parts have different composition or properties,The synthesis and self-assembly of Janus colloids have attracted an increasing attention due to their potential applications in many fields. Many methods have been developed to prepare Janus particles. However, these methods remains restricted such as low efficiency and applicable for large size (>1um). Pickering emulsion with colloids embedded within the interface can be utilized to synthesize Janus colloids, but how to restrict the colloid rotation is a key. We have proposed to synchronously graft two different polymer brushes onto the two faces of a representative silica colloid at Picketing emulsion interface in a single step, forming Janus colloids.
