Preparation and Characterization of Magnetic Polymer Microspheres via a Novel Emulsifier-free Polymerization

Magnetic composite microspheres are usually composed of magnetic cores ensuring strong magnetic response and polymeric shells providing favoriable functional groups. Such magnetic composite microspheres are widely applied in magnetic bioseparation for analytical and clinic purposes, functioning as carriers for enzyme immobilization, cell isolation, nucleic acid (RNA and DNA) and protein purification, and immunoassay. In this study, a novel method for preparation of magnetic composite mierospheres was developed by emulsifier-free emulsion polymerization controlled by 1,1-diphenylethylene(DPE) as free radical control agent.
