Controllable Synthesis of nanostructured conducting polymers
Conducting polymers (CPs) have been extensively investigated for their metal-like and adjustable conductivities, while there is a growing scientific and technological interest in their one-dimensional nanostructures. We have invented a general method to synthesis of CPs, such as nanofibers, nanotubes and hyper-branched nanotubes by using an acid with surfactant properties as the dopant and the soft template simultaneously. However, the arrangements of nanostructures as well as their composed molecules are difficult to be controlled. Herein, we report two aspects on controllable synthesis of nanostructured conducting polymers: (i) helical conducting nanofibers composed of predominately one hand helical polymer conformation.Helical nanofibers were induced by chiral dopants by a polymerization process, and they showed chiral recognition and separation properties; (ii) a general electrochemical strategy to synthesize vertically aligned conducting polymer nanostructures, including nanotubes and nanowires. The aligned nanostructures showed interesting actuating properties and supercapacity.
