PMMA/SiO2 Nanocomposite via One-stage Miniemulsion Polymerization
One-stage miniemulsion polymerization, where no ultrasound preemulsifying procedure was necessary, was employed to prepare poly(methyl methacrylate)(PMMA)/SiO2 nanocomposite. SiO2 particles with a broad distribution were first treated with 3-(trimethoxysilyl) propyi methacrylate (MPS)and then grafted onto PMMA in the miniemuision polymerization. Finally, nanocomposite latex particles with diameter less than 100rim were obtained (figures 1 and 2). The thermal and optical properties of the nanocomposite were also investigated.
