Risk-based Inspection Optimization of the Deteriorating System

This article proposes a risk-based methodology for inspection modeling to ensure safe of the facility. This methodology uses a gamma distribution to model the material degradation and a Bayesian updating method to improve the distribution based on actual inspection r~ults. The inspection decision model fmds a periodic inspection policy which minimizes the expected average risk per cycle. The results presented in the ease study show that the optimum inspection interval is affected by the different corrosion rate significantly. The updated corrosion rate obtained reflects the changes in operating and environmental conditions.
