Study on Fatigue Strength Evaluation of Steel Welded Joint by Hot Spot Stress Method
Evaluating the fatigue strength of welded structure by the method of hot spot stress becomes widely used. Finite element analysis and extrapolating equation are the most important factors to ensure the hot spot stress. The hot spot stress of the fillet welded gusset which is enduring the bending load was studied, the influence of sizing grid and extrapolating equation was balanced. The result shows that the sizing grid and element type have more influence on the hot spot stress, and the gridding meshing method and extrapolate equation were confirmed. The different transition angles at weld toe which is the important factor for fatigue strength are analyzed. The result shows that the transition angle at weld toodoes not has effect on the hot spot stress. Consequently, hot spo! stress method is much more accurate and simple than nominal stress method.
