Research on Large-scale Horizontal Push-Shear Field Test of Coarse-grained Red Sandstone Soil Embankment
Coarse-grained red sandstone soil is a special kind of engineering geological body, it has been.bruadly applied to construct embankment. Due to its complicated physical-mechanical properties, the study has not been sufficient so far. The s|opa collapse often occurs in such embankment. In order to make further study on the distortion and destruction characters and the shear strength parameters of the coarse.grained red sandstone soil embankment, ten large-scale horizontal push-shear field tests were carried out, which resulted in some meaningful conclusions, test sites on a highway of Hunan provinee, China. According to the test results, the strength characteristics, the complete thrust-displacement curves and failure mode of the coarse-grained red sandstone soil embankment under various states were described. The shear strength parameters (cohesion c and internal friction angle ψ) of red sandstone soil embankment were calculated, based on the conception of the average sliding surface and the thrust-sliding equilibrium method, which pave the way for the slope stability analysis of such embankment. The results show that coarse-grained red sandstone soil has typical stress-strain full curves, obvious strain softening, high internal friction angle and cohesion, which are caused by the special structure of the red sandstone soil.
