Time Management in BTO Manufacturing Environments

Todays supply chains are increasingly moving towards a build-to-order(BTO) environment from a make-to-stock one as a way to gain competitive advantage.Time management or lead time reduction within the supply chain is the mechanism for time-based competition.Executed under TOC operating philosophy,such reduction techniques provide tremendous potential for total cycle time reduction.The focus of total cycle time reduction strategies has largely been in the area of production and operations,which helps cut costs and increase quality throughout the firm.This article presents a time compression method of supply chain based on the theory of constrains approach.
