Catalysis on Functional-Resin Hybrid

1.What is Resin Catalyst? There are typically two types of resins as catalysts or catalyst supports. One is an acidic resin represented by polystyrene sulfonic acid, which works usually as a solid acid catalyst. The other is a basic resin availed as either a solid base catalyst or a support for metal complexes. The objectives of this study are focused on a bi-functional resin hybrid for catalysis consisting of two functional resins without neutralization in the catalyst bed. The resin catalysts are usually used as solid catalysts instead of liquid acids or bases in order to separate easily from the product liquid. The most active type of the resin catalyst works in a gel phase due to increase of reactant diffusion. The gel type resin contains small percentage of cross-linkages that come from divinylbenzenes in the case of polystyrene sulfonic acid or polyvinylpyridine. The opening of the polymer net, the pore mouth size of the resin depends reversely on the percentage of the divinylbenzenes in the copolymer.
