Amphiphilic Molecular Design as a Rational Strategy for Tailoring Bicontinuous Electron Donor and Acceptor Arrays

A configuration composed of nanoscale segregated bicontinuous electron donor (D) and acceptor (A)arrays is ideal to many optoelectronic devices, especially for organic photovoltaics.Although the present bulk heterojunctions based on blend of donor and acceptor components can achieve bicontinuous donor and acceptor phases by careful choose of D-A pair and treatments, the phase size is hard to reach molecular scale, resulting in unavoidable existence ofdomains irrespective of size. In orderto achieve charge separation, photochemically generated excitons are required to diffuse cross their domains to D-A interfaces, leading to certain loss of light energy.
