CdS/Ordered Mesoporous Carbon Hybrid Architecture with Enhanced Photocurrent Response

Ordered mesoporous carbon materials have received extensive attention in recent years due to their remarkable properties.Among all the reported ordered mesoporous carbon materials, CMK-3 carbon is of particular interest because of its special nanostructure and good electronic conductivity. To provide CMK-3 with additional functions, incorporation of selected organic or inorganic components into the framework and/or nanochannels of the mesoporous carbon is a feasible way.Introduction of CdS into mesoporous carbon materials would extend the scope of CdS nanomaterials for potential applications. However, these two important building blocks, nano-CdS and CMK-3 carbon have rarely been assembled as hybrid architecture in nanotechnology.Recently, Kamat et al anchored CdS nanoparticles onto single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWCNT).It was found that such nanoparticle/nanotube architecture can be used as building blocks for light-harvesting assemblies, although its light-harvesting efficiency was relatively low.
