Gelatin or chitosan-silicate hybrid scaffolds for biomedical applications-hard tissues and soft tissues
Synthesized were inorganic-organic hybrids from 3-glycidoxypropyltrimeethoxysilane (GPTMS) and gelatin or chitosan through sol-gel processing.Infrared spectroscopic and 29Si cross-polarization (CP) magic-angle spinning (MAS)-NMR studies indicated that hydrolysis of the methoxysilane groups of the GPTMS molecules formed silanoi groups, while the epoxide groups of the GPTMS molecules were grafted to gelatin or chitosan chains. From osteoblastic cell proliferation, the present hybrids showed good cytocompatibility.
