Biomimetic Polymer for Tissue Engineering Application
Biomaterial is one of three elements for tissue engineering. Considering different natural tissue composed of different sized cells and possessed individual morphology structure, as well as natural tissue could secrete different growth factor for accelerating growth and proliferation of individual cells in the site, to fabricate this kind scaffold which possesses biomimatic specific morphology structure, good surface property, as well as including growth facto is important and has potential application in tissue engineering. In the present research, spinal cord like microtubular orientation structured poly(lacide-co-glycolide)(PLGA) scaffold was fabricated by an improved thermal induced phase separation (TIPS) technique. After surface of the scaffold was improved by plasma treatment combining growth factor anchorage technique, a spinal cord like bio-mimetic structured scaffold has been obtained. Inferences of various technique parameters on morphology structure and surface property of the scaffold were discussed. Finally, applications of the biomimatic polymer in cornea, nerve and spinal cord tissue engineering were introduced.
