W/o/w Emulsion for Cancer Therapy: the New Delivery Way to Increase Platinum-based Anticancer Drugs Activity
A new quick direct accurate method FACS was established to study the physicochemicul properties of w/o/w emulsion containing platinum-based anticancer drugs, including its size, stability,encapsulation and drug release kinetics. A w/e/w emulsion formulation is reported to partly overcome the drug resistance effect and increase the drug activity, and at the same time reduce some side effects of cisplatin. Fluorescently tagged w/o/w emulsions with DNA, protein and cisplatin and without will be added to human ovarian cancer cells and assayed for their cytotoxic effects using FACS and cell culture. Delivery of cisplatin-loaded w/o/w emulsion to the cells in their death will be assayed by live/dead assay in the future. Considerable effort is being put into engineering means to increase the anticancer activity and reduce its side effect by the emulsion delivery to the target tissues in a selective manner with drastic reduction in systemic dose and concomitant systemic toxicity.
