Study on Appearance of Blebs of Au-Pt Dental Alloy after Porcelain Firing

Au-Pt alloy was widely used for metal-porcelain restorations. This research is focusing on the appearance of belbs and weakening of metal-porcelain bonding strength after the sintering of opaque porcelain because of the gold-platinum (Au86.1%-Pt11. 5% (wt)) ceramic alloy itself. The micro structure and micro-area chemical composition of the alloy were analyzed by using SEM and EDS. The results show that the exist of AI2O3 impurity particulates in the alloy is the main reason of the appear ance of blebs and weakening of metal-porcelain bonding strength after porcelain firing. The reason is that the thermal expansion coefficient of AI2O3 impurity particulates in the crown is inconsistency with the porcelain powder. The Al2O3 impurity particulates mainly come from the cracked alumina crucible detritals during melting.
