Primary Inclusion Control as Tool for Fast Liquid Steel Processing

Energy Savings and Quality are currently the most important issue and are pressing the steel industry to achieve proper steel quality at lower cost. As a means of saving energy and process time the control of so-called primary inclusion during steelmaking is described here. A universal system called SIFC has been in used since 1995 in a number of steel plants around the world. Dynamic conditions for steel processing and different basic steel types are presented. Different basic deoxidation materials are used from aluminum to titanium. Slag components play a key role in the primary inclusion formation. Further control of primary inclusions and modification of these are also presented.

Energy usage temperature primary inclusion formation morphology calcium aluminum slag activity castability nitrogen.
