Simplified Model Analysis of Steel Shear Wall

Steel shear wall (SSW) is widely concerned recently as a new kind of lateral load resisting component. The high post-buckling strength of unstiffened SSW makes the component possible to resist lateral loads with good ductility and energy dissipation ability.Only Canadian code CAN/CSA S16-01 and American code ANSI/SISC 341-05 include the design method of SSW system, and the strip model is recommended in design. In this paper, the development of strip model is introduced and the model is evaluated by comparing the finite element analysis results with the experimental results. The results indicate that the strip model can be used in SSW system when the height-to-thickness ratio is larger than 300,and the inclination angle has little influence on the ultimate load of SSW; The results also show that the strip model can be used to analyze the behavior of SSW under hysteretic load and excellent energy dissipation ability can be forecasted.
